Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federally funded initiative designed to provide affordable housing opportunities for low-income families within the private rental market. Through this program, eligible families are able to search for housing that best meets their needs while receiving financial assistance in the form of Housing Assistance Payments (HAP).
Participants in the program typically contribute no more than 30% of their monthly adjusted income toward rent and utilities, while the program subsidizes the remaining balance directly to the landlord.
This program offers flexibility, allowing families to choose housing in a variety of neighborhoods, provided the unit meets program requirements and passes inspection standards.
